About the Upcoming Game
The forthcoming game that is expected to be held in the city of Bridgeport will take place at the area’s most popular multi-purpose facility. Located on the Main Street, the Webster Bank Arena previously known as the Arena at Harbor Yard was inaugurated in 2001. Currently owned by the City of Bridgeport, the venue is known for hosting basketball and hockey games and concerts. With a seating capacity of up to ten thousand audiences, the arena serves as home grounds to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Fairfield Stags. This time the grand vicinity will be hosting an upcoming collegiate event that will bring forth teams from the Temple University and the University of Connecticut. Rivalries will be strengthened once again as the two football programs, battle it out.
Introducing the Owls
The Temple Owls is the name given to all athletic programs that compete from the Temple University located in Philadelphia. With a total of 22 varsity teams, these sports’ programs are under the direction of artistic director, Bill Bradshaw. With the owl as the team’s mascot, the Temple University was the first university in America to adopt it as its symbol. The university’s founder Russell Conwell adopted it at the time Temple University started off as a night school for students with limited resources. Sports that are offered at the university include basketball, football, baseball, rugby, golf, soccer, track and field, volleyball, swimming and hockey, including others. Supporting the colors black, white and cherry, the Temple University has produced numerous Olympic participants who have been able to bring in bronze, silver and gold medals. Some of these include Bill Hermann Jr., Marian Barone, Bob Stout, Clara Schroth-Lomady, Igor Francetic, Jason Read, Marcus McElhenney and Scott Brodle to name a few.
Owls’ Achievement and Records
The Temple Owl’s football program was established back in 1894. It is known to currently compete in NCAA’s Football Bowl Division. The team is also a member of the AAC (American Athletic Conference). Known to practice at their home stadium, the Lincoln Financial Field, the Owls is one of the oldest collegiate football programs in all of America. Currently headed by Coach Matt Rhule, throughout its career the team has bagged a Conference title, a Division championship and an All-Americans Consensus trophy. Making their way to NCAA Bowl games a total of four times, the Owls have competed against football programs from Tulane, California, Wyoming and UCLA. Over the years the successful team has produced several players who have made it to pro-football including Evan Rodriguez, Zachary Dixon, Terrance Knighton, Rian Wallace, Wayne Colman, Mike Curcio, Tre Johnson, Todd Bowles, Paul Palmer, Dan Klecko, Raheem Brock, Jim Callahan, Bernard Pierce, Jason McKie, Todd McNair and Mike Hinnant, including several others. With a current postseason bowl record of 2-2, the Temple Owls have established an all-time record of 416-544-53.
