NHL and Outdoor Games

The first ever hockey game featuring two NHL teams was played on 27th September 1991 between the Rangers and the Kings. The latter won the game by a 5-2 score.

Regular season games made their debut outdoors on 22nd November 2003 when Canadiens played the Oilers in the Heritage Classic. The game drew a positive response. The Winter Classic then joined the party on the first day of 2008. The trend has continued ever since and the fans now look forward to being a part of these games. The number of people that have watched the games have continued to grow and the arrival of the NHL Stadium Series this year will increase it even further.

The NHL Stadium Series

On the Labor Day of 2013, the National Hockey League announced the plans for a new set of outdoor games to be played during the regular season. The games were branded as the NHL Stadium Series. Four games are scheduled to be played in the inaugural run which will give fans of teams like Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks to see their favorite players in action live.
