Los Angeles Galaxy’s History

The forthcoming series of games by Los Angeles Galaxy are scheduled to be held at multiple facilities namely StubHub Center, Rio Tinto, BC Place, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Jeld-Wen Field and BBVA Compass Stadium. Before the Major League Soccer was established in 1993, the soccer teams of the city partook in the North American Soccer League, the Western American Soccer League and the American Soccer League. In 1993 the Major League Soccer was created to represent US’s bid to host the prestigious 1994 FIFA World Cup. With its first season being held in 1996, the Los Angeles Galaxy was founded as one of the ten founding teams of the soccer league. The name “Galaxy” was adopted from the fact that the city was home to the Hollywood stars. Initially a part of the Western Conference of the MLS, the team went onto competing for the MLS Cup in its first season. However, it wasn’t able to defeat the DC United and with this lost the championship game. In 1999 the Los Angeles Galaxy went onto competing for the CONCACAF Champions Cup winning the game with a final score of 20-12. From 1996 to the team’s 2005 seasons, the Los Angeles Galaxy became the only MLS team to qualify for the playoff games each year.

Galaxy’s Wins & Achievements

The successful soccer franchise was seen signing player David Beckham to their team. Leaving Real Madrid to join the Los Angeles Galaxy, Beckham made his debut in a game that was held at the Home Depot Center. This game brought in a record attendance of 35000 spectators at the venue. The star soccer player remained with the team till his retirement in 2012, during which time the Los Angeles Galaxy enjoyed a successful career. Throughout the team’s years it has won the CONCACAF Champions’ League once, the MLS Cup four times in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2012, and the MLS Supporters’ Shield four times in 1998, 2002, 2010 and most recently in 2011. Apart from this Galaxy has bagged the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup twice in 2001 and 2005 and won the MLS Western Conference regular season and playoff games, eight times each. Minor trophies for the team include 10 California Clasico wins, 7 SuperClasico Championships and each of Puerto Rico MLS-USL Challenge, Desert Diamond Cup and Hyundai Club Challenge.
