Story Line

The musical is set in the future, in a monotonous world where uniformity in appearance and thought of humans is enforced. Another major factor contributing to the dullness of life is the lack of music and musical instruments. This lackluster world is ruled by Killer Queen who exerts her power with strict laws. In the midst of her tyrannical reign is the rebellious group which tries to bring back rock music. Although depicting a bleak world, the production is far from serious. In addition to great musical score, We Will Rock You has plenty of hilarious moments and also includes a love story.

Idea for the production was conceived in mid nineties and after several modifications, it made its debut in May 2002. Book for the musical has been written by the acclaimed English artist Ben Elton in collaboration with two surviving members of Queen, Roger Taylor and Brian May. Taylor and May have also contributed in the casting and music supervision. Opening at the West End, We Will Rock You did not make much of an impression on the critics but it turned out to be a favorite with the audiences. It went on to win five Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards including one in the ‘Best New Musical' category. With time the musical has only grown in popularity with the theatergoers. Fast selling We Will Rock You tickets is an evidence of this.
