Early Years

Andrea Bocelli was passionate about music even as a child. Growing up with a weak eyesight, he found comfort in music and would sing to himself. Inspired by the legends like Enrico Caruso, Mario Del Monaco, Beniamino Gigli and Franco Corelli, Bocelli imitated their style and practiced his skills. He started playing the piano when he was six and later extended his learning to saxophone and flute. As an adult, Andrea trained under the opera great, Franco Corelli. In 1992, Bocelli was discovered by Zucchero, an Italian rock legend and hence started his journey, from a lounge singer to a classical music maestro, with rising in demand.

New Beginnings

Success and fame didn't come easily to Andrea Bocelli. Although he found a strong platform to start his career from, but he made his debut in the 90s, an era that witnessed numerous musical shifts. There were some critics who found his singing old-fashioned, while the others didn't know where to place him in the changing music scene. However holding his own, Bocelli released six albums during that decade that dominated the music charts in Europe and Latin America. Having a complete grasp on style and vocal technique, Andrea Bocelli created a fusion of classical music with pop, finding a place among the mainstream audiences. In 1999 he made his debut in the United States with a live performance, which received a standing ovation by the massive crowd.

The New Millennium

Andrea Bocelli stepped into the new millennium with his seventh album, "Verdi". Laced with his genuine liking for romantic tones, the maestro embraced the songs with grace and as a friendly crossover opera tenor. In 2009 Bocelli came out with first holiday album "My Christmas". It reached number two on the Billboard charts and made it to the top on the US Holiday Album charts. A versatile singer, Andrea Bocelli brought ingenuity to the holiday classics by mixing classical with pop and opera. His latest album "Passione" hit the shelves in 2013, topping the US Classical Album charts. He has followed the release with a worldwide Passione Tour that has taken the music lovers by storm. Since Bocelli successfully blends classical tunes with popular music, his audience are diverse and of various age groups. In "Passione", the star has collaborated with the pop icons like Jennifer Lopez and Nelly Furtado. The album also includes a cover of Elvis Presley's hit number, "Love Me Tender". A harmonious collection of romantic numbers, Passione highlights Bocelli's effortless singing and powerful vocals.

Awards and Honors

Andrea Bocelli's 21 years journey in the music industry includes numerous accolades. He has been honored with the "Order of Merit of the Italian Republic" as well as the "Order of Merit of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella". He sang a duet with Celine Dion titled "The Prayer" which won a Golden Globe in the "Best Original Song" category. The music genius has to his name seven World Music Awards and six Classical Brit Awards. For his contribution to live theatre and operas, Bocelli was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
