Based On:

A Time To Kill, novel by John Grisham

A Time to Kill was John Grisham’s first ever book. It was an instant best seller, and propelled the author to international fame. Released in 1988, it has been constantly intriguing readers with its thrilling storyline, suspense scenes and the realistic exploration of sensitive topics like violence, morals, justice and retribution.

Two white racists violently rape and beat a ten year old African American girl who manages to survive the attack, despite an attempt on their part to hang her. The offenders are apprehended and brought to trial. The girl’s father, Carl Lee Hailey hires a white lawyer, Jake Brigance and they discuss the possibility of the offenders being acquitted, since racist sentiment runs high in the area.

Taking the law in his own hand, Hailey buys a gun, goes to the court house and shoots the two offenders dead after which he gives himself up to the police. Brigance agrees to represent him in court, for a much smaller fee, and decides to enter a plea of not guilty by arguing that the reason for the murders was temporary insanity.

What ensues is a thought provoking, gripping courtroom drama in which elements of racism, justice, retribution and morality are all presented before the audience and leave a lasting impression.
