The Beginning
Born in England, the multitalented musician, Peter Frampton was interested in playing the guitar at a very young age. He self-learnt the instrument and within a few years gained proficiency in playing jazz and rock riffs. During his teens Peter performed as part of various bands like The Little Ravens, George & The Dragons and The Humble Pie. He also participated in session recordings with renowned artists as Jerry Lee Lewis, Jim Price and George Harrison. It was during this point in time that he discovered the ‘Talk Box,’ which later went on to become his trademark guitar playing style.
Early Success
Peter Frampton’s debut solo album, ‘Wind of Change’ was released in 1972. In the following years, he toured extensively in support of his albums ‘Frampton’s Camel’ (1973), ‘Somethin’s Happening’ (1974) and ‘Frampton’ (1975).The latter was certified Gold by the RIAA.
With famous songs and hit live performances, Peter made a strong place for himself in the industry. However, it was the record ‘Frampton Comes Alive’ in 1976 that marked the beginning of his career’s peak days. Singles like ‘Show Me the Way,’ and ‘Baby I Love Your Way’ became super hits. The record charted high on the Billboard 200 and was certified six times Platinum. Due to its success, Peter featured on the cover page of Rolling Stone Magazine. The enormous media attention and massive sales of the album were testament to the fact that the rock sensation had in fact arrived.
Hiatus and Comeback
Peter Frampton continued to treat his fans with many more albums in the following years. Among these are ‘I’m in You,’ ‘Where I Should Be,’ ‘Breaking All the Rules,’ ‘The Art of Control,’ ‘Premonition’ and ‘When All the Pieces Fit.’ When Peter was hit by an unfortunate accident in 1978, he had to temporarily shelf his music career. To the fans’ delight, he was back in 1994 with his self-titled album. The comeback album was followed by a string of successful records that include ‘Frampton Comes Alive II,’ ‘Now,’ ‘Fingerprints’ and his latest effort ‘Thank You Mr. Churchill’ (2010).
‘Thank You Mr. Churchill’ presents a more matured side of the musician’s sensibility. It is based on the concept of peace against war. The romantic singer has utilized his songwriting skills to the best in order to produce compositions that are lyrically thought provoking.
