Humble Beginnings

Coming from a modest family in Sevierville, Tennessee, Dolly Parton began singing when she was hardly five. At eleven, she was singing on a local radio show. She also performed as a child artist in some television shows. Most of her early years spent in the native mountains ignited the soul of a songwriter in her and she penned down some of the perennial hits of her career. Parton moved to Nashville after her high school in search for better music prospects and captured the attention of many song publishing companies due to her amazing talent of songwriting.

Landing a recording deal with Monument Records in 1965, she released string of singles and eventually her full-length debut album, Hello I’m Dolly in 1967. All of her albums released till the mid of 70s hit the country music charts in the US and she made a distinctive spot for herself during the era of reigning musicians such as Elvis Presley and The Beatles.

Busting the Charts

Dolly Parton’s name appeared at the top of US Country chart for the first time after the success of her 1977 record, New Harvest… First Gathering. The following album, Here You Come Again came out in the same year and became her first Platinum certified album in the US. 70s came to close with her Gold record, Great Balls of Fire and she became one of the most revered artists to revive pop-country in the dominating rock music scene.

For the next decade, Dolly Parton kept on ruling the international music charts with her widely popular albums. Besides receiving Gold and Platinum certifications, she also racked up a number of awards. The start of the 90s brought her back to the country roots and she gave multiple chartbusters.
