A highly illustrious swing band, The Brian Setzer Orchestra has been the frontrunner in shaping the American music scene over the past two decades. The band has produced critically acclaimed music that has earned it numerous accolades and honors. Fronted by the celebrated musician Brian Setzer, the band has released over eighteen albums and is famous for its elaborate countrywide tours. This season, Brian along with his twenty-two piece ensemble will once again hit the US stages to deliver rocking live shows. The band is expected to perform at several local venues including Snoqualmie Casino Ballroom, The Warfield Theatre, The Dolby Theatre, Chumash Casino, Ryman Auditorium, Mayo Performing Arts Center, Rialto Theatre and Orpheum Theatre.

Prior to the formation of the Brian Setzer Orchestra, Brian was a part of the eminent rockabilly band, The Stray Cats. Comprising of Slim Jim Phantom and Lee Rocker, the group achieved commercial success in US, Canada, Australia and UK. Some of their notable hits included ‘Rock This Town’, ‘Bring It Back Again’, ‘She’s Sexy + 17’ and ‘Stray Cats Strut’. Their songs have been listed amongst the ‘500 Most Important Songs in the History of Rock and Roll’ by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 1990, Brian established the Brian Setzer Orchestra based on the big band style. The idea behind the formation of the group was to explore full sections of saxophone, trombone and trumpet players. With Brian on drums, string bass, piano, guitar and vocals, the group began performing at local clubs in Los Angeles. Their music caught the attention of several music labels and eventually they were signed by Hollywood Records.

Major Albums

The band released its eponymous debut studio album in 1994. Featuring hits like ‘Drink That Bottle Down’, ‘Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square’, ‘September Skies’ and ‘Lady Luck’, the album managed to garner rave critical reviews. It scored a four star rating from Allmusic. The band’s third album ‘The Dirt Boogie’ proved to be a breakthrough one for them. Consisting of original tracks as well as famous swing covers, the album was a hit amongst the fans. It comprised of covers such as Bull Moose Jackson’s ‘Nosey Joes’, The Skyliners’s ‘Since I Don’t Have You’ and Louis Prima’s ‘Jump Jive An’Wail’. The album also included Santo & Johnny’s ‘Sleep Walk’ cover that earned the band a Grammy Award for the ‘Best Pop Instrumental Recording’.

The Orchestra on Tour

The Orchestra continues to entertain the fans by performing live shows every year. Currently comprising of several talented musician such as Leslie Spencer, Robbie Hioki, Jason Thor, Sean Billings, Steve Reid, Matt Zebley and Eric Morons, the band is all set for another tour. As usual the Brian Setzer Orchestra tickets will be all the rage amongst the fans this season.   1. Brian’s love for orchestra developed during high school where he played Euphonium.
  2. The hit song ‘Rock This Town’ has been recorded by both Brian’s band, The Stray Cats as well as the Brian Setzer Orchestra.
  3. The idea to form a big band struck Brian while he was performing with the in-house band of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
  4. Brian has also made a cameo appearance on the famous animated show, The Simpsons.
  5. In 1987, Brian portrayed the 50’s rock star Eddie Cochran in the film, La Bamba.
