After finishing their studies, they decided to form a professional band and adopted the moniker of Hi-Fi. With the start of 80s, they were joined by Bob Wiseman, Cleave Anderson and Bazil Donovan. These original five were called Blue Rodeo in 1984 and soon they were signed to Warner Music Group.

Music Debut and Fame

Blue Rodeo made their first public appearance as a band when they performed at a gig in Toronto. This earned them their initial fan following. Their debut studio record, Outskirts came out in March 1987 and it hit the Canadian music charts. It received a warm commercial reception and went Multi-Platinum in Canada. The following album, Diamond Mine was released in March, 1989. It turned out to be a top 5 record on the Canadian Albums chart and reached triple Platinum status. This incredible success coupled with their consistent live shows made them one of the most famous bands of the time.

90s started with their double Platinum record, Casino. Blue Rodeo came up with their 1992 album Lost Together, which confirmed their leading status in the music industry. Their 1993 record, Five Days in July broke all the past success records and earned six Platinum certifications in Canada. These achievements not only boosted their image but also expanded their international fan base.

Prevalent Success over the Years

Throughout the 90s, Blue Rodeo gave one after the other hit albums and record-breaking tours. Their fame continued with the start of the new century as they became more active in their music career. The band witnessed different lineup changes but it didn’t affect their popularity. Different band members undertook many solo ventures and also collaborated with various other acclaimed artists. The Days in Between marked another great addition in their repertoire as the band stepped into 2000s. All of the following albums that came out either reached Gold or Platinum status.

Apart from this consistent success, the band maintained their international prominence through tireless touring. The band witnessed another lineup change when their keyboardist, James Gray died in August 2013. Blue Rodeo became a seven member group after the guitarist Colin Cripps joined as a full time member. With a new addition to their lineup, the band began to layout tracks for their latest album. In Our Nature came out in October 2013 and became their first record in the last four years and peaked at two at the Canadian Albums chart.
