One of the most cherished rock bands of the past decades; the Black Crowes are back after a hiatus and will be touring around the US this season. The band has been enthralling rock lovers for over two decades and continues to enjoy a loyal fan following worldwide. The Crowes released their most recent live album ‘Wiser for the Time’ in 2013. The band will be seen performing at several major concert halls and venues including Port Chester’s Capitol Theater, New York’s Terminal 5, Denver’s Ogden Theatre and Portland’s Arlene Shcnitzer Concert Hall.
History
The Black Crowes evolved from the 1984 band, Mr. Crowe’s Garden, which was formed by brothers Rich and Chris Robinson. Mr. Crowe’s Garden was initially influenced by the 1960s’ southern rock and psychedelic pop sound but later became a revivalist band, producing 70s’ blues rock music. By 1989, the band had become influenced by artists such as Otis Redding, Faces, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Rolling Stones. They became the Black Crowes and were signed by the Def American Label.
Major Albums
Black Crowes released their debut album ‘Shake Your Money Maker’ in 1990. Featuring hits like ‘Twice As Hard’, ‘She Talks To Angels’ and ‘Hard to Handle’, the album managed to reach number four spot on the Billboard 200 chart. It received commercial acclaim and was certified three times platinum status by the RIAA. The band’s following album ‘The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion’ was a number one hit on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified two times platinum status in the US.
The Black Crowes have released a total of nine studio albums, five live albums and two compilation records. Their most recent studio album was ‘Croweology’ that was released in 2010. The album reached number four spot on the US Independent Albums chart as well as the US Top Rock Albums chart. The acoustic album featuring the band’s earlier tracks was a hit with the critics, scoring a five star rating from The Daily Telegraph.
Band’s Hiatuses
Over the years, the band has gone through several hiatuses. The group first took a break in 2002 after touring thirty-six US cities in support of their 2001 album ‘Lions’. The end of the tour was met by the departure of drummer Steve Gorman, after which the band announced its first hiatus.
In 2005, the band regrouped and released another string of albums that included ‘Warpaint’, ‘Before the Frost…Until the Freeze’ and ‘Croweology’. The band then embarked on the Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys Tour in 2010 that culminated in another indefinite hiatus for the group.
Current Standing
The Black Crowes are once again set to storm the concert arenas around the US this season.
