From ‘Class Clown’ to Comedy Star
Amy Schumer’s jolly nature and gifted art of joke telling made her class favorite when she was in college. The humorous aspect of her personality earned her the title of ‘Class Clown’ by her friends. She studied theater while attending Towson University which helped her to hone her acting skills. Amy’s background in theater led her to star in an Off-Broadway comedy play, Keeping Abreast. She began her career as a stand-up performer in 2004.
Amy’s debut appearance at the Gotham Comedy Club helped her improve her stage presence skills and soon she embarked upon a full-time career in comedy. In 2007, she contested as a participant in the fifth season of NBC’s reality show Last Comic Standing. Though new in the business, she made her mark on the show and was the fourth runner-up. In 2008, she starred in Comedy Central’s talent show Reality Bites Back and was also featured in various adverts. She also had recurring roles on Fox News’s late night show, Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld.
In April 2011, she released her debut comedy album, Cutting which proved to be a commercial success. Amy also co-hosted the show A Different Spin with Mark Hoppus, which was later renamed as Hoppus on Music. She has shown her talents on HBO’s famous series Girls and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Amy’s performances on these shows were greatly admired by the viewers as well as the critics.
Later months of 2011 and the start of 2012 brought many wonderful opportunities for Amy and she bagged a number of television credits. She also wrote for the Cosmopolitan magazine and performed her stand-up routines on the television shows like Live at Gotham and 30 Rock. Her role in Adult Swim’s Delocated not only strengthened her career as a performer but also made her youngsters’ favorite.
Amy expanded her repertoire and acted in three independent films namely Sleepwalk with Me, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World and Price Check. Besides appearing in the Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne Barr, she recorded her stand-up special titled Mostly Sex Stuff. These two series earned her critical acclaim and established her as one of the hottest television celebrities.
By the end of 2012, Amy had completed preparations for her exclusive show, Inside Amy Schumer. It premiered on Comedy Central in April 2013 and turned out to be a hit with the viewers. The popularity of the show paved way for its second season that will begin in 2014. A successful female comedian, Amy headlines her live shows besides shooting for the television series.
