Start of the Journey
Shen Yun Performing Arts was formed in 2006, when the believers of Falun Dafa got together with a mission to bring their marvelous tradition onstage. With a team of approximately 30 dancers and musicians, the company produced a number of shows during its inaugural season and toured around the US. With an overwhelming response, it expanded its shows to international level and visited almost 130 countries around the world. Shen Yun Performing Arts keeps getting better with time and now has become a global phenomenon.
About the Show
The show is inspired from various Chinese classical, folk and popular dance forms. Some of the routines are also based on different myths and legendary tales of the civilization. Flexible acrobatics, high leaps, elongated body movements and delicate dance movements highlight the façade of their sequences. Live music produced through traditional instruments integrates with the performances and mellow singing by the singers brings variety to the show.
Different still and moving backdrops enhance the beauty of the performances and helps in elaborating the story that is told through dance. Strength and flexibility of the male performers while the deftness and delicacy of the female performers create a striking balance which appeals to a variety of audiences. Different props used within the routines complement the dances and make overall experience of the show brisk and livelier.
Divisions
Shen Yun Performing Arts is comprised of world-class dancers, musicians, singers, conductors and choreographers. Besides the dance troupe, Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra is another division under the name ‘Shen Yun’. The orchestra beautifully blends Western and traditional Chinese music elements to deliver a refreshing musical experience. The orchestra has performed at some of the leading stages around the US and regularly tours with its new productions.
Shen Yun Performing Arts has three main divisions. With its headquarters in New York, the resident company takes care of the shows performed within the city. The international and touring divisions of the company take their shows to multiple destinations around the world after every seven months.
