American Idiot Tickets

With so many plays and musicals being produced nowadays, anything that is different and beautiful in the world of theatre attracts the drama lovers. American Idiot is such a story. Broadway has adapted the punk rock band Green Day’s rock opera into a full-fledge sung-through stage performance. Officially opening up on Broadway in 2010, the American Idiot musical play has given hundreds of performances so far and still shows no signs of slowing down in terms of popularity. All members of Green Day did not appear in the production of the play but the music composition for the play is still done by the band.

The new smashing hit of Broadway, “American Idiot” is an intriguing story of three modern day young figures trying to deal with the complexities of life. These three lifelong friends are faced with the same dilemma, which is to choose between independence and security. The story of three lives is told in a very interesting manner and has been gaining appreciation where ever it is being seen.

The Plot

The three friends, Tunny, Johnny and Will are on a quest to discover meaning of their lives in the post 9/11 world.

Trying to find escape from the suffocating suburban way of life and family restraints, Tunny and Johnny set out for the city. With their newly found freedom they are looking for excitements and pleasures offered by the big city. But life has other plans and other challenges waiting for them.

Behind the Scenes Story…

The music of the play has received a lot of attention. The sung-through play is described by The New York Times’ Charles Isherwood as “…thrilling, emotionally charged…”

The talented minds behind the story are the director, Michael Mayer and Green Day’s lead vocalist, Billie Joe Armstrong. The composer of the music used in the American Idiot is by Green Day and lyrics are also by Armstrong. The total music content includes the entire album “American Idiot” as well a few other chunks also from Green Day songs.

In the beginning of 2011, a national tour plan for the show was also announced. Later the same year, an international tour to Ireland and UK was also announced. The tours continued through 2011 and 2012 and garnered much fame and popularity nationally as well as internationally.

Awards and Honors

American Idiot pocketed six awards and twenty nominations through the original Broadway production. In 2010, the musical won a Drama Desk Award, a Tony Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award. 2011 brought the play a Grammy Award as well.

A documentary featuring Armstrong’s journey from Green Day to Broadway has also been produced. The documentary is titled ‘Broadway Idiot” and it was released at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March this year. Even after all these years, American Idiot seems to hold a lot of interest for the theatre lovers; this is proved by the fact that American Idiot tickets are still high in demand.
