Background on the Novel:
The novel Fifty Shades of Grey was developed initially as a fan fiction story based on Stephanie Meyer’s famous Twilight series. Originally titled "Master of the Universe", it was published episodically under an online pen name and featured erotic content between Twilight’s main characters, Edward and Bella. After receiving criticism regarding the nature of her content, author E.L James moved the story to her own website and rewrote Master of the Universe as an original, in which she changed the names of the protagonists to Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. She elaborated on her work and divided it into three novels, Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. Once published, the trilogy became the fastest selling paperback of all time.
Brains behind the Show:
SPANK! has been directed and written by Jim Millan. Millan is famous for his work as a director on a number of hits including, Kids In the Hall, Larry King Sanding Up, Spiderman on Broadway and Marijuannalogues with Tommy Chang. Millan has garnered critical acclaim for his work which has been presented in thirty seven countries, in seventeen languages and sold more than ten million tickets. Other writing credits for the show go to Colin Munch, Patrick Whalen, Anne Marie Scheffler, Ian MacIntyre and Jon Blair.
About the Musical:
The show kicks off with occasional author E.B. Janet finding herself alone at home for the weekend since her family is going away somewhere. She decides to write a book that will allow her sexual fantasies to come to life. Grabbing a drink to loosen her inhibitions, she begins to write. As she begins typing, the whole story starts unfolding in front of the audience. She introduces her female lead, Tasha Woode, who has everything to complete the girl-next-door-image except one "fatal" flaw: her clumsiness. Her hero is Tasha’s love interest, Hugh Hansen, who is a mysterious, sexy and experienced billionaire. These are the three characters which comprise the entire cast and keep the audience entertained with hilarious comedy, sexual innuendo and even a strip tease here and there! The audience is sure to be entertained as the actors poke fun at famous movies and books including singing raunchy versions of the Willy Wonka theme song and making references to Twilight and even Batman. So this is one show that you definitely cannot miss. Intended for mature audiences, it offers you a night to have your own fun. So do not wait and order your SPANK!
