Considering the worldwide fame and success of Michael Jackson, it is no surprise that there are numerous tribute artists, who professionally pursue a career, trying to rekindle the magic of the great artist. Michael Jackson. Who doesn’t know the name? Considered by millions to be the greatest entertainer who ever lived, the icon garnered universal critical acclaim and commercial success during his lifetime. Starting off as a child artist with his brother’s in the Jackson Five, he gained widespread fame for his talent at such a young age.
Following his career with the Jackson Five, MJ started off on perhaps the greatest solo career ever, becoming one of the best selling artists of all time. His signature album “Thriller”, released in 1982, has become the best selling album of all time. Spawning hits like, Thriller, Billie Jeans and Beat It, the album has sold a staggering estimated sixty five million copies.
Following the success of Thriller, Jackson followed up by releasing more successful albums, including Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995). All three are also among some of the best selling albums of all time, ensuring that during the 80’s and early 90’s, Jackson was the single most dominant music artist in the world.
Along with his timeless music, Jackson was also one of the most electrifying entertainers in the world. Jackson created and popularized a number of complicated dance moves like the moonwalk and the robot, which he would perform while singing live. His live shows featured a backline of dancers, elaborate technical effects and an energetic, electrifying performance from the King of Pop himself.
Like countless other artists before him, MJ’s timeless music inspired Firestone to pursue a career as a tribute artist. Growing up in North Carolina, he listened to MJ’s songs and watched VHS tapes of his music videos and performances, and tried to emulate the King of Pop in all aspects, from clothing to singing and dancing. He also frequented local gospel churches to practice and improve his singing abilities.
Before signing his personal show at the Rio, Firestone was a performing as a tribute artist on China’s Star Cruises and also worked as an entertainer at the Imperial Palace.
Firestone’s shows are special because they not only recreate Jackson’s performances on stage, but also capture the spirit with which he performed. He knows all of MJ’s greatest moves like the moonwalk and the robot, and dances just like him, giving the crowd the next best thing to actually seeing Michael Jackson performing live.
The show includes Firestone performing all of the pop star’s number one hit songs, including Thriller, Beat It, Smooth Criminal, and Billie Jeans. And the best part is, just like MJ’s concerts, there is a line of professional backup dancers who accompany Firestone on stage, truly helping to recreate the experience of a MJ concert.
