The Teatro alla Scala located in Milan is announcing to hold a spectacular presentation of Il Lago Dei Cigni, also known as the Swan Lake. The opera ballet has been hosting performances since the nineteenth century and is one of the most critically acclaimed shows in the history of ballet. Recent performances of the Swan Lake that were held at New York, Oslo, New Zealand and England have enthralled and mesmerized audiences in different parts of the world. Upcoming performances expected to be held in Milan are also some of the most awaited ballet performances of this season. IL Lago Dei Cigni tickets are expected to be sold out within a matter of weeks.
The Swan Lake show will take place at the Teatro alla Scala, an opera house located in the beautiful city of Milan, Italy. Inaugurated back in 1778, Teatro alla Scala, also known as La Scala was initially named New Royal Ducal Theater alla Scala. With a history that dates back to over two hundred years, the opera house has held some of the greatest opera and theatrical performances. Some of the world’s most renowned artists have performed at the stage of the facility. Apart from holding live shows, La Scala also serves as home to prestigious ballet organizations such as La Scala Theatre Ballet, La Scala Theatre Chorus and the La Scala Theatre Orchestra. Back in the year 2002 and 2004, the facility underwent massive renovations that cost over sixty one million Euros. After the reopening of the venue, tickets for shows fetched up to as much as two thousand Euros for one attendee. This time the facility is announcing to hold a series of spectacular presentations that will recreate one of Tchaikovsky’s classic compositions.
The Swan Lake
The upcoming Il Lago Dei Cigni show is written and composed by the legendary Pyotr IIyich Tchaikovsky. The presentation is a four act ballet that was completed in 1876. The debut show that was held in 1877, took place at the Bolshoi Theatre located in Moscow. At the show choreography was handled by Julius Reisinger Wenzel. The music of the Swan Lake is completed with the help of an orchestra that consists of piccolo, flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, cornets, trumpets, tuba, timpani, harps, tambourines, bass, drums and a triangle. The story of the ballet presents, Prince Siegfried who is urged by his mother on this birthday to find a bride. To escape, the prince goes on a hunting trip with his friends during which he comes across a magical lake full of swans. The prince discovers how the swans are actually girls who have been captured by the evil Rothbart when their queen Odeth tells him their sad tale. Falling in love with Odeth, the Prince promises to free her and her friends of the evil spell by proving his true love for her, in front of the whole world. However, the evil sorcerer figures this out and sends an imposter that looks like Odeth to seduce the prince. Will Rothbart succeed in his evil plan or will Odeth finally be freed of this curse? The upcoming Il Lago Dei Cigni show will recreate one of ballet’s most celebrated compositions.
Adaptations of the Swan Lake
Several cinema and television adaptations of the ballet have been made. These include the 1981 cartoon series created by Kimio Yabuki, the 1994 feature film named “the Swan Princess”, the Oscar winning 2010 feature film named “the Black Swan” and a novel of the same name authored by Mercedes Lackey in 1999. An anime was also inspired from Tchaikovsky’s composition. This anime was named “Princess Tutu” and was directed by Jun’ichi Sato.
