If/Then is a product of the highly acclaimed creative team behind the Tony Award winning and Pulitzer Award winning musical, “Next to Normal”. If that musical is anything to go by, audience members can expect If/Then to shape up to be a wonderful work of art.

Production Team:

The production team for this musical is simply amazing. At the helm of the project is producer David Stone, whose production credits also include the hit Broadway show “Wicked”. Three-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif is the director of the musical, and his resume includes the critically acclaimed plays “Next to Normal” and “Grey Gardens”. The Pulitzer and Tony award winning duo behind “Next to Normal”  Tomm Kitt and Brian Yorkey once again team up to work on this play. Yorkey has witten the lyrics and the book of the play, while Kitt has composed the music.

Choreography is being handled by Larry Keigwin, who has recently worked on the new musical, “Tales of the City” and the off-Broadway revival of “Rent”. This will be his Broadway debut. Set designing is being done by Tony Award nominee Mark Wendland while lighting design is handled by Tony Award winner Kenneth Posner. Posner is most famous for his work on “Kinky Boots” and “Wicked”. Tony Award winner Brian Ronan is working on the sound designing of the play.

The lead role will be played by Tony Award winner Idina Menzel, who rose to prominence for playing the role of Maureen Johnson on the Broadway musical “Rent”. She then won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Elphaba in the Broadway super hit “Wicked”. Joining her in the cast will be Tony Award winner LaChanze, who won the 2006 Tony Award for her critically acclaimed performance in the musical “The Color Purple”.

About the Play:

The play revolves around Elizabeth, who will be played by Menzel. On the verge of turning forty, she moves back to the city of possibility, New York, and hopes to turn her life around by starting everything afresh; new friends, new home and maybe a resurgent career. But even though she has everything carefully planned out, she realizes that the smallest decision or the most insignificant random occurrence will shift the balance of her world and take things out of her hand. Set in the constantly shifting backdrop of modern day New York City, this romantic new musical deals with a very pertinent question, about the dilemma of chance and choice. The musical promises to be a wonderful and entertaining tale of things most of us can relate too. Complimented by the work of some of the best people in the industry, this musical is shaping up to be a blockbuster.   1. Lead actress Idina Menzel is also famous for her portrayal of Shelby Corcoran on the musical comedy-drama series, “Glee”.
  2. LaChanze is in the 2013 film “Side Effects”, starring Jude Law, Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta Jones.
  3. Tom Kitt is the founder of “The Tom Kitt Band”, in which he plays piano. The band has already come up with their first album titled, “Find Me”.
  4. While a student at Columbia University, Brian Yorkey served as the artistic director of the Varsity Show.
  5. Choreographer Larry Keigwin, is also the artistic director of KEIGWIN + COMPANY, a dance company that conducts shows all over the country. His choreography was described as “witty, sexy, fashion-conscious and full of attitude while also being haunting” by the New York Press.
