Debra Jo Rupp

Debra Jo Rupp is the sole cast member of this mesmerizing one-woman show. Debra gained fame for her role of the beloved and hilarious mom of “That 70’s Show”, named Kitty Forman. She has experimented a lot throughout her career and has come a long way. However, for past few years she has settled down in the east coast and is currently in process of rediscovering her theatrical roots. She starred in Becoming Dr. Ruth when it was staged at TheatreWorks, Hartford. She was recently invited as a guest star on the Hart of Dixie, the CW show. Other famous appearances include “Katie” the booking agent in Seinfeld and as Pheobe’s sister-in-law in the famous television series “Friends”.

Debra appeared in the famous television series on HBO named “From The Earth to the Moon”, which was directed by Sally Field. She is also known for her role in She’s Out of My League. Other film appearances include ‘Clockwatchers’ with Toni Collette and ‘Parker Posey, Sgt. Bilko’ with Dan Aykroy and Steve Martin, ‘Big’ with Tom Hanks and ‘The Act, Kickin' it Old Skool’ with Jamie Kennedy. She gave voice to the Emmy winning show Teacher’s Pet, Air Buddies and Gardfield. She has also appeared in the Broadway show ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ in the past.

Playwright & Director

Becoming Dr. Ruth the play has been written by one of the most accomplished theatrical playwrights, Mark St. Germain. Some of his famous worlds include Tom and Out of Gas on Lover’s Leap, Freud’s Last Session, Best of Enemies, Scott and Hem in the Garden of Allah and Camping with Henry. He collaborated with John Markus on The Fabulous Lipitiones. He has worked in musicals with Randy Courts, which include Jack’s Holiday, The Gifts of the Magi and Johnny Pye. He is famous for being the creative consultant of The Cosby Show and has co-written the film DUMA with the director Carroll Ballard. He has also been the producer and director of shows, including his own documentary named My Dog. He has been awarded with several honors in his career, including Off Broadway Alliance Award, Lucille Lortel Award and Outer Critics Circle Award.

Becoming Dr. Ruth is directed by the artistic director and founder of the famous Barrington Stage Company, Julianne Boyd. She was also the director of the previous production of Becoming Dr. Ruth, which was staged at the TheatreWorks. Other notable directions include in All My Sons, The Importance of Being Earnest, Mark St. Germain’s Best of Enemies, Cyrano de Bergerac, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Follies. She was the director of the hit show Cabaret, which took away six Boston Theatre Critics Awards.

The journey which led to what she is today was a long and dangerous one. She was a sniper and scout in Jerusalem. She had taken it up to support her child, being a single mother. Now the story of the girl who grew up to be Dr. Ruth is going to be told by none other than Debra Jo Rupp.
