Bring Back The Senators
Formed in 1990, the team is the second NHL franchise to use the Ottawa Senators name. The first Ottawa Senators was established in 1883 and was one of the founding members of the NHL. After facing financial troubles, the club relocated to St. Louis and became the Eagles. They failed to succeed in St. Louis and were suspended as a franchise a year later.
By the efforts of real estate developer, Bruce Firestone, Ottawa was eventually granted another NHL franchise after almost fifty-four years. Bruce’s bid was accepted after his successful campaign, ‘Bring Back the Senators’ persuaded the NHL as well as the Ottawa residents. On December, 1990, the franchise was officially launched, with plans to compete in the 1992-1993 season.
Major Championships
The team had its first taste of success when it won its first Atlantic Division Title during the 1998 season. Later, in 2002, the Senators bagged their third Divisional Title as well as won their first Presidents’ Trophy.
The team continued to perform well for the next four seasons and in 2007, made their first Stanley Cup Finals appearance after bagging the Eastern Conference Championship. They defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-1 to win the Conference Title, but faced defeat at the hands of Anaheim Ducks during the Stanley Cups Finals.
The Senators have also won several other titles over the years including the ‘Mark Messier Leadership Award’, ‘King Clancy Memorial Trophy’, ‘Jack Adams Award’, ‘Calder Memorial Trophy’ and the ‘Prince of Wales Trophy’.
