The Boston Celtics are the only team in NBA to win eleven championships in thirteen years, with eight of those coming in successive seasons. This also makes Celtics the only team in all of North American professional sports to achieve this incredible feat. Their total of seventeen NBA championships is also the most by any NBA franchise. The Celtics began to dominate basketball for the first time during the fifties. That was the start of a legacy that has put them right up there among the ranks of the most formidable basketball teams in history. The success they have enjoyed over the years has also helped them generate a big fan base that buys every season to root for their favorite team. It will be more of the same this time around as well.

The Winning Legacy

Boston Celtics were created in 1946 as a  Basketball Association of America team. In 1949, the team joined the National Basketball Association. The Celtics struggled initially but that was about to change big time. The Celtics did the conference and the league double for the first time in the year 1957 to kick start an era of dominance that is unparalleled in American professional sports history. A staggering eleven league titles were won by them between 1957 and 1969. A dozen conference crowns were clinched during that same time span too. The Celtics domination went all the way to 1980’s that brought their way a total of sixteen NBA titles, nineteen conference championships and thirteen division crowns.

The Celtics in Recent Past

There is a saying, "every rise has a fall" and that is exactly what happened to the Boston Celtics. They went through a period that  brought them just four division championships between 1988 and 2005.  A lot of changes were made and things began to fall in place once again. The‘Big Three-Era’ began when Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce came together to form the "Boston Three Party," which took Celtics to the top once again. In 2007-2008 season this trio led the Celtics to a 66-16 record to lift the division title. They followed that up by getting their hands on the conference and the NBA title to cap off an incredibly successful season. Celtics topped the division every season between 2008 and 2012. They also won the last of their twenty one conference championships during that period in 2010.

2012-2013 didn’t turn out to be a success for the Boston Celtics. They did post a winning season on board but didn’t manage to win any title. The management decided to give the team a new direction. The hiring of Brad Stevens as coach and the players they signed are all initiatives in that direction. How well the offseason moves pay off remains to be seen but the next year or two have a lot riding on them as far as Celtics are concerned.
