Todd Stansbury took the reins of the UCF Knights athletics department in the year 2012 and didn’t waste any time in making his mark on the program. In the first year under his guidance, the Knights went on to win three conference titles and an NCAA Championship as well. That however was Knights’ last season in the Conference USA and the program joined the American Athletic Conference earlier in 2013. It is a new beginning for the Knights and they will be looking to stamp their authority on the league straight away. The next few seasons are going to be very interesting and everyone associated with the program should look forward to it with optimism.
The UCF Knights are the newest members of the American Athletics Conference and will be looking to fly off the blocks without wasting too much time. As an athletics program, they have achieved considerable success over the years and that puts them in a good position to make it to the next level. They have the talent and potential. All they need to do is make sure that they make full use of it. The next few years should give everyone a good indicator as to where they are headed. Football
The UCF Knights football program was incepted in the year 1979. Since then, they have gone on to compile an overall record that exceeds .530 percentage which is a commendable achievement. Knights have also gone on to produce a Consensus All-Americans and have got their hands on four division titles. They have also clinched three conference championships and have made it to an impressive five postseason bowl games, winning two.
Basketball
The UCF Knights have been quite successful in both men’s and women’s basketball. Men have managed to get their hands on six Division II conference titles and one Division I conference championship at the end of the regular season. They have also clinched the Division I conference tournament on four occasions while winning its Division II counterpart once.
As far as women go, they have done pretty well on the court. They have won six regular season conference titles and seven conference tournaments. They have made it to the NCAA/AIAW Tournament’s Final Four once on their way to winning the competition in the year 1980.
Baseball
Baseball became a part of the UCF athletics program in the year 1973 but it took around two decades before it started winning titles. The UCF Knights won their first major championship when they got their hands on the coveted conference tournament in 1993 and they haven’t looked back since. They have won the conference tournament on a total of six times. The Knights have also gone on to be crowned conference winners on four occasions, all since 2000. They have also made it to the NCAA Tournament eleven times to become one of the fastest rising college baseball programs in the country.
The UCF Knights Legacy
The Knights have gone on to make their mark on the NCAA pretty quickly, since it is a relatively new program compared to a lot of their competitors who trace their roots back to well over a century. They have won multiple titles in other sports like soccer, softball and track and field as well to rank among one of the most talked about programs on the circuit. Now that they have joined a new conference, it gives them a chance to take the next step in their quest to reach the top. If history is anything to go by then they will make good this opportunity.
