Early Years

After trying for almost thirty years, the Tampa Bay area eventually got its own team in 1995. The request of ownership led by Vince Naimoli was approved by the MLB. After three years, the club played its first season in the MLB in 1998 as Tampa Bay Devil Rays. For almost a decade the team failed to make its mark, finishing last in several successive seasons.

New Name and Championships

For the 2008 season, owner Stuart Sternberg rebranded the team as Tampa Bay Rays and changed the team's official colors. The team showed significant improvements and managed to surprise the baseball fans by finishing first during the regular season. During the 2008 season, the team went on to win the ‘East Division Title'. The Rays also managed to defeat the Boston Red Sox to bag its first ‘AL Pennant'. The team advanced to the World Series Finals, but lost to the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2010, the Rays again finished the season at number one position in the East Division and won their second ‘East Division Title'.

Live Home Games

Since the team's inception, the Rays have been playing home games at the Tropicana Field. Located in St. Petersburg, Florida, the domed stadium hosted its first match in March 1990. Since then, the arena has been home to several sports teams over the years such as UFL's Florida Tuskers, AFL's Tampa Bay Storm, and NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning. Witnessing the Rays live at home is an enlivening experience for all fans.
