The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have got proceedings underway as part of the latest season now. They have been there and have done it all over the years to climb to the top and solidify their place as a true collegiate sports powerhouse. The season is expected to produce numerous memorable moments once again. Football

The Notre Dame football program traces its roots back to the year 1887. Since then, they have managed to win thirteen NCAA recognized national titles and another eleven unclaimed national championships. They have also won fifteen bowl games. Seven Notre Dame football players have won the prestigious Heisman trophy. Ninety Seven of their football players have gone on to earn Consensus All-American status to firmly establish the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program among the most feared in the NCAA today.

Lacrosse

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish lacrosse program received varsity sports status in the year 1981 and it has been at the forefront ever since. Notre Dame got off to a blistering start and clinched their first conference title in the year 1982. That triumph set them on their way to becoming a really successful program. The sport has yielded a total of twenty one regular season conference championships and two conference tournament titles. They have also made it to all of the last eight of the NCAA Tournament and have headlined the semis on three occasions.

Ice Hockey

The Fighting Irish men’s ice hockey program has witnessed a lot of memorable moments in the recent past. Hockey began to be played by the university in the year 1912 but the program has really begun to step up to the plate in the last few years. Since 2006, they have managed to lift two regular season conference titles and three conference tournament crowns. They have also made half a dozen appearances in the NCAA Tournament with two of those ending in Frozen Four spots. The recent upsurge in form has put their team as one of the tough ones to beat.

Women’s Soccer

With their achievements in soccer, women aren’t too far behind in terms of winning titles for their university either. They have clinched eleven conference tournaments since the year 1995. Not only that, but in that same time frame the women’s soccer teams have also been crowned NCAA Tournament winners thrice.

Other Sports

Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been crowned regular season conference champions once in men’s basketball. They have also been crowned Pre-Tournament Helms winner twice. Women have also won ten regular season conference titles and six conference tournaments in basketball to go with one NCAA/AIAW Tournament title. Men and women have combined to lift eight national championships in fencing as well.

The Fighting Irish will be looking to stamp their authority on the NCAA Division I once again during this season. Their history shows they know how to get the job done and that puts them in a good position to go all the way this time around as well.
