One of the oldest clubs in the National Hockey League, the New York Rangers continue to dominate the professional ice hockey scene in North America. Early Years

Established as an expansion franchise in 1926, the team was initially awarded to the Madison Square Garden’s president, George Lewis Rickard. George had planned to establish a team that would compete with the popular ice hockey club, the New York Americans, at the Madison Square Garden. After his first attempt failed, George pursued a second team naming it the Tex’s Rangers. Tex’s Rangers managed to surprise the fans by winning the ‘American Division Title’ during its inaugural season. Even though the newly established team lost in the playoffs, the players became minor celebrities amidst the New York City’s roaring 20s.

Major Championships

In 1927, the newly formed Rangers stunned thousands of hockey fans throughout North America by winning the ‘Stanley Cup’ during their second season. The team defeated Montreal Maroons 3-2 to bag America’s first NHL Championship. Since then, the Rangers have won a total of four ‘Stanley Cups’, most recently during the 1993-1994 season during which they defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-3. The Rangers ended a 54 year championship drought after bagging the ‘1994 Stanley Cup Championship’. Apart from this, the club has won seven ‘Divisional Titles’, one ‘Conference Championship’ and two ‘Presidents’ Trophies’.
