Nashville Predators have been regular playoff contenders in the recent past. The last campaign however has given them a big wakeup call. The “Preds”, as they are affectionately known by their fans, have got going immediately in order to ensure there is no repeat of last season. They have strengthened their roster sensibly which puts them in a good position to right the wrongs of the previous campaign. The Beginning

Efforts to bring a major sports team to Nashville first began in the year 1995 when rumors started to swirl about the “New Jersey Devils” move to the city. The city also put up a twenty million dollar bonus for any team that was willing to make the move to the city. Things didn’t pan out that way and no team, including the Devils re-located.

It was then two years later that Craig Leipold and the consortium he was heading went to the National Hockey League to get Nashville a franchise. An elaborate presentation was put forward and the proposal was accepted by the league. After a lot of waiting and immense hard work, Nashville got its own hockey team. David Poile was made the GM while Barry Trotz was handed the reigns as the team’s first head coach.

Play Begins

Nashville Predators hit the ice rink for the first time in the 1998-1999 season. The team took on the Panthers in its first game ever on 10^th October, 1998. Preds ended up losing the match. They had to wait three more days only to notch up their first win against Carolina Hurricanes. They posted as 28-47-7 record in their inaugural campaign which landed them fourth spot in the division. Preds didn’t make it to the playoffs for the first five seasons of their existence but that stat was about to change.

Regular Playoff Appearances

After spending half a decade trying to come to terms with how things worked in the NHL, Nashville Predators finally got going in the 2003-2004 season. That campaign saw them go 38-29-11 to record their first positive season. That was good enough to land them third position in the division and hand Preds their first playoffs appearance. They made it to the postseason every year till 2011-2012 except 2008-2009. Last season acted as an eye opener for the franchise and everyone associated with it. But the management has made its moves and the rosters have been finalized. So, let the games begin.
