Introducing the Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers was formed in 1967 by five investors namely John DeVoe, Richard Tinkham, Chuck Barnes, Chuck DeVoe, and Bob Collins, who pooled their finances to purchase a basketball franchise in the American Basketball Association. Initially the team was seen playing their home games at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum for seven seasons after which the team relocated to the Market Square Arena in 1974. The venue remained reserved for the Pacers for twenty five years. The team’s first coach was Larry Staveman who stayed with the team for one season only. He was replaced by former Indiana Hoosiers player, Bob Leonard. Under his leadership, the Pacers reached a new level of success. Players namely Bob Netolicky, Roger Brown, Mel Daniels, Rick Mount and George McGinnis made the Pacers one of NBA’s standout teams.

Current Team Status

Indiana Pacers are currently coached by Frank Vogel who preceded Larry Bird’s tenure. The team is owned by Herb Simon with Kevin Pritchard as the general manager. Indiana Pacer’s Development NBA League affiliation is with the Ford Wayne Mad Ants, established back in 2007. Pacer’s currently play their home games at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse Arena, an indoor facility located in the downtown area of Indianapolis. Catering to as much as nineteen thousand spectators, the facility’s construction cost a whopping amount of two hundred and fifty six dollars. It was inaugurated in 1997 and over the years has held basketball games, ice hockey events and concerts. The arena’s tenants include Indiana Fever, Indiana Firebirds and Indiana Ice. This time the team is practicing at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse Arena to take on the Washington Wizards in the forthcoming game.
