Even though Shavonte Zellous was not able to play because of her foot injury, the Indiana Fever went on to snatch .500 back, after losing it in a defeat to L.A. Sparks. Zellous is the ninth Fever player this season, to get injured and not being able to play in a game as a result. But regardless of all the setbacks, the Indiana Fever is blazing its way to success. If they continued with their performance like this, they may be able to repeat last year's history of winning the WNBA season.
Fever History
Formed in 2000, the Indiana Fever had great coaching from the very start. Their first coaches Nell Fortner and Anne Donovan were both basketball legends. With Kara Wolters in the team the introductory match by the Fever had a record 9-23. The following year was not too exceptional for the team but they still managed to put up a 10-22 record. The 2002 season however was a breakthrough for Indiana Fever when one of the players, Tamika Catchings not only won Rookie of the Year honors, but the team itself went on for an impressive 16-16 record. This tied them with Orlando Miracle for the final playoffs, but the Fever won the tiebreaker and marked their first playoff appearance.
Years 2003 and 2004 were not that great for Indiana Fever as the team wasn’t able to get any big wins. Their records were 16-18 and 15-19 respectively and they missed the playoffs. But the Indiana Fever were not happy with mere mediocrity, they were just warming up.
Ups and Downs
In 2005, Indiana Fevers gave the best performance of their career. With a 21-13 record they made it to the playoffs for the second time. But this time they were determined to take it all through. Sweeping the New York Liberty off in the first round by two games to none, Indiana Fever got their first ever win in the playoffs. With addition of some incredible players throughout the next year, the Indiana Fever was able to make it to the playoffs in 2006 yet again. Although they could not win the finals, but their performance was incredible throughout the season.
In 2007, the team started off the season quite strong. The main focus of Indiana Fevers this time was Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Finals. They managed to win a number of games but were unable to win the Championship.
Fever is Rising Again
2008 was not very encouraging for the Indiana Fever again, but the team seemed determined to shake that effect in the following year. In 2009 the Indiana Fever reached their record best scores of 22-12. They also made it to the WNBA finals for the first time. 2010 and 2011 were warm up sessions in the franchise's history once again, but 2012 saw them all fired up and geared to be successful regardless of all limitations. The Fever could actually be felt in 2012 WNBA season, as they went on to become the Champions by defeating Minnesota Lynx in the finals, 3 to 1. This was the best performance plus first WNBA title for the Indiana Fever.
With this interesting history and strong comebacks after slumps in performance, it is no surprise that fans are excited beyond measure for the team's upcoming performances and are buying Indiana Fever tickets.
