Formation & History

The team was initially established as Hershey B’ars in 1932 by Milton S. Hershey. They became a part of the newly formed Tri-State Hockey League, which became the Eastern Amateur Hockey League a year later. The team continued to play in the league, first as Chocolate B’ars then simply as B’ars. In 1936, the team was rebranded as Hershey Bears in order to avoid criticism for its ‘B’ars’ moniker to be too commercial. After two more seasons, the Bears joined the newly formed International American Hockey League (now the American Hockey League) as its eighth member and have since then become the league’s most successful club.

Major Championships

The Bears have had a highly successful career in the AHL. The team has bagged seven regular season wins, fifteen ‘Division Titles’, twenty-two ‘Conference Championships’ and eleven ‘Calder Cups’. They won two back to back ‘Calder Cups’ in 2009 and 2010, becoming the leading ‘Calder Cup’ winner in AHL. During the 2010 season, the Bears defeated the Texas Stars 4-2. They became the first club in AHL history to win the championship title after losing in the first two Final Cup games.
