Early Years
Chicago Bears is among the two original teams that existed during the foundation of NFL. In the 1932 championship game, the Bears defeated Portsmouth Spartan with the final score 9-0. 1933 game placed then against the four-time NFL champs, New York Giants, with the Bears winning the match 23-21. 40s’ proved to be an exceptional era for Chicago Bears as that’s when Sid Luckman, star quarterback and Hall of Famer joined the team. Fans and the football fraternity in general nicknamed them “Monsters of the Midway”, as during this time the team won four NFL titles. In 1963, the Bears won their seventh championship after once again defeating the Giants 14-10.
Another triumph for Da Bears came in 1985, when they won Super Bowl XX. Held in New Orleans, Chicago Bears quite convincingly defeated the New England Patriots 46-10. The MVP of that game was Bears’ Defensive End, Richard Dent.
Da Bears Craze
For a long time now, the Bears have become a part of America’s popular culture. Following their Super Bowl win, a movie was made on some of the team’s players. The very same year, a rap song, “The Super Bowl Shuffle” was recorded by the Bears that not only reached the Billboard charts but also earned a Grammy Award nomination. Many popular television shows include Chicago Bears references and the main characters always cite the team as their favorite. The franchise has three mascots, one official and two unofficial. ‘Staley Da Bear’ is the team’s official mascot who was introduced in 2003 and since then is seen in all the games, leading the crowd into cheers. During their live games, fans adorn the team colors - Burnt Orange, Navy Blue and White - and sing the fight song “Bear Down, Chicago Bears” to buck up the players.
