The Beginning
 
Formed in 1993 as an NFL expansion team, the Panthers played their first season in 1995. The team, led by head coach Dom Capers, began playing in the West Division of the National Football Conference. The Panthers surprised the fans with their performance and finished the season with a 7-9 record. This record has since then become the ‘best record by an expansion team in its first year' in the NFL. In its second season, the team managed to perform even better, finishing with a 12-4 record and bagging its first ‘Divisional Title'. In 2002, the Panthers began playing in the South Division of the NFC, competing against Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saint and Atlanta Falcons.
 
Championships
 
With four playoff appearances, the Panthers have won three ‘Divisional Championships' and one ‘National Football Conference Championship'. They bagged their first ‘Divisional Title' during their second season in 1996, while playing in the West Division of the NFC. In 2003, the team managed to win its first and only ‘Conference Championship' after winning the ‘NFC South Division Title'. They defeated the Philadelphia Eagles with a 14-3 victory at the Lincoln Field to bag the ‘Conference Title'. The team won its third Division title, ‘NFC South', in 2008.
