Established back in 1970, the Buffalo Sabres is a professional ice hockey franchise with its roots based in Buffalo, New York. The team is known to compete in the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division of the National Hockey League. The Sabres are amongst the fourteen teams that were created when the NHL was expanded. The hockey franchise is currently under the ownership of Terry Pegula with Ron Rolston as the head coach. Their home arena is the First Niagara Center, an indoor facility located in Western side of New York. Catering to as much as nineteen thousand audiences, the arena has provided its grounds to teams namely Buffalo Bandits from NLL, Buffalo Destroyers from AFL, Buffalo Blizzard from NPSL, Buffalo wings from RHI and Rochester Americans from AHL. It has served as home ground for the Sabres since 1996. The team has been training hard at the facility to take on the Winnipeg Jets at a forthcoming game.

Sabres present "The French Connection"

Becoming a part of the National Hockey League in the 1970 season, the Sabres were initially owned by Robert O. Swados, Northrup Knox and Seymour Knox III. In its first season, player Perrault was drafted to become a part of the Sabres. In his rookie season, Perrault scored thirty eight goals establishing a record for the highest number of goals by an NHL rookie. He was also awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy for this feat. In the team’s next season, Rick Martin was drafted in favor of the Buffalos. Martin went onto breaking Perrault’s record scoring a massive number of forty four goals in the 1971 season. These two players were named NHL’s top forward liners and started being called "The French Connection". With these two gems of players, the Sabres were able to make it to the NHL playoffs for the very first time.

Stanley Cup & Other Achievements

The Sabres enjoyed successful seasons as it was in 1974 that they entered the Stanley Cup finals, for the very first time. In 1976, the Sabres welcomed Danny Gare, the fifty goal scorer to the team. With such a prolific team lineup, the hockey franchise bagged six Division champions, three Conference championships and a Presidents’ trophy.
