The Boston Bruins was initially established as an expansion club in 1924. Charles Adams, a Boston based grocery tycoon, persuaded the NHL to grant him a franchise. The formation of the club led the NHL’s expansion into the US. Charles was granted the Boston based franchise by the NHL along with another expansion club, the Montreal Maroons. After hiring a former ice hockey star Art Ross as the team’s general manager, the Boston Bruins played their inaugural match in December at the Boston Arena against the newly formed Maroons. The team won the match by 2-1.

Championships

The Bruins made their first Stanly Cup Final appearance in the 1926 season, where they lost the Cup to the Ottawa Senators. Three seasons later in 1929, the team once again reached the Stanley Cup Final and defeated the New York Rangers to bag their first ‘Stanly Cup’. Much of the team’s success was due to standout players including Tiny Thompson, Dutch Gainor, Dit Clapper and Harry Oliver.
