New avenues are opening up for him, in what can turn out to be the biggest year of his career.
As one of the biggest stars of the Electronic Dance Music landscape, Skrillex is in a league of his own. From the time he made his debut to this day, he has cemented his place among the best in the business. He is young and talented and has a long list of awards and accolades to back that up. This wonderfully gifted artist is now about to head on another epic road trip and Skrillex tickets for his shows are in demand yet again. 2014 can turn out to be another stellar year for him and if that turns out to be the case, then it will not come as a surprise to anyone who is into EDM.
The Beginning
It was in Los Angeles that Skrillex (real name: Sonny John Moore) first developed his passion for all things music. He was in his teens when he would make trips to various clubs in and around the city to get a taste of live music. He began to hone his music skills and in 2004 he got the chance to become the lead vocalist of “From First to Last.” The band started working on their album “Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count.” It hit the music stores in 2004 and they followed that up by “Heroine” two years down the line. Soon after the release of the album, Skrillex decided to leave the band and try his luck as a solo performer. It was a decision that changed his life.
The Start as a Solo Artist
Skrillex went solo and started to release demos of his work on social media networks like Myspace. After gaining popularity, he went on multiple road trips with other bands and artists and after being on tour for an extended period of time, he came out with “Gypsyhook EP” in the year 2009. That was followed by another series of road trips that took him to various places and festivals around the circuit. The tours showed music fans what he was really capable of. This was just the start of a rise that was about to take on epic proportions.
Post Gypsyhook EP
Skrillex then started to produce his own music in the year 2008. His first effort was titled “My Name Is Skrillex” and it came out in 2010. Then came “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” another EP and a collaboration on “Cinema,” a track by Benny Bensassi and Gary Go in 2010 and 2011 respectively. His third EP “More Monsters and Sprites” was released in the year 2011 as well. Skrillex earned five Grammy nominations for his efforts and went on to win three of those.
“Bangarang” was released in December 2011 and it turned out to be a big hit as well. He then joined Nero to work on a remix version of the song “Promises”. Skrillex got nominated for three Grammys for the work he did on “Bangarang” and “Promises” and he won all three of them. “Make It Bun Dem After Hours,” “Leaving” and “Try It Out” have come out since then to cement his place right up there among the most famous EDM artists in the industry today.
