The Storyteller
Known by many as ‘Tarter Salad,’ the standup comedian with the Southern accent has a distinct comedy style. Unlike other contemporary comedians, he pitches jokes in a rather traditional way. His storytelling approach allows him to share various amusing incidents and experiences of his own as well as others.
Early Days
Born in December 1956, White joined the US Navy at the age of seventeen. Towards the end of the Vietnam War, he served on the salvage ship USS Conserver and the auxiliary rescue. He is passionate about fishing, one of his favorite hobbies. However, as a career choice he had always wanted to become a comedian. After living in Mexico for a short period of time, he returned to the US to pursue his dream career.
The Big Break
Although a talented comedian and a determined dreamer, Ron did not find success the easy way. He had to face and overcome numerous hurdles in his journey to stardom. He started off by performing at local clubs and parties. The pattern continued for many years until his talent finally received the much deserved attention, following which he began working with big comedy names like Bill Engvall, Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy. Having gained popularity and demand for his comic routines, Ron penned down a book by the name of ‘I Had the Right to remain Silent…But I Didn’t have the Ability.’ It comprised of an interesting assortment of jokes and pictures by the artist that was received very well by his fans. The book eventually landed on The New York Times’ bestseller list.
Career Highlights
Ron White’s Blue Collar Comedy Tour along with the three renowned comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy and Bill Engvall, spanned from January of 2000 until March of 2003. It turned out to be a sold out tour across the country, grossing revenue of more than $15million. The comedian made a number of cameos on Blue Collar TV in the year 2005. He also recorded various episodes as the celebrity judge on ‘The Gong Show with Dave Attell.’ Other ventures that White has been a part of include television programs as ‘Reno 911!,’ ‘Kath & Kim,’ ’12 Miles of bad Road,’ and movies like ‘Horrible Bosses’ and ‘Sex and the City 2.’ Among his hit comedy albums are ‘You Can’t Fix Stupid,’ ‘Drunk in Public,’ ‘Truckstop Comedy,’ and the recently released ‘A Little Unprofessional (2013).’
