Early Exposure

Jim Gaffigan was raised in Indiana and belonged to a family that was centered on banking. Despite of their rigid views about the entertainment industry, Jim moved to New York City in 1990. At that time he was 24. Using his innate abilities, he joined the local comedy circuit and soon emerged as one of the fresh faces on the local comedy scene.

His career got a major kick when he performed his exclusive comedy routine at the Late Show with David Letterman. David was impressed by the newness of Jim’s material and his grip over a variety of subjects.  He asked him to develop the content for his sitcom. The result was the short-lived show, Welcome to New York. A number of cameos in different television shows such as Ed, Law and Order, Sex and the City, That 70s Show and Third Watch made him known to a variety of viewers.

His acting career thrived with his roles in different movies. Some of his initial movie credits include Three Kings, Cry Baby Lane and Super Troopers. The latter was chosen for the Sundance Film Festival in 2001. These stints put him on the unending path of success and acclaim.

Rise to Fame

Jim Gaffigan rose to commercial prominence with his comedy central specials that aired on the channel at different time periods. The material from his live shows was also featured in Comedy Central’s animated series, Shorties Watchin’ Shorties. In 2001, two of his comedy albums, Luigi’s Doghouse and Economics II came out and were favorably received by the audiences and the critics.

In the coming years, Jim balanced his television and film career with his live shows. He became a regular cast member of the TBS’s sitcom, My Boys and remained part of the show till the end of its third season. Teaming up with the fellow comedian Conan O’Brien, he produced a series of animated skits for his show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien. During the same time, he starred a number of acclaimed movies including The Love Guru, 17 Again, Away We Go and It’s Kind of a Funny Story. These ventures strengthened his standing in the industry.
