Johnson was born and raised in Hawaii. His father was a well known professional surfer and Johnson followed in his father’s footstep, until a freak accident put an end to his surfing career.

He became involved with music at an early age and learnt how to play the guitar when he was only eight years old. His love for music grew as he became the rhythm guitar player for a local band called Soil. Johnson graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in music and film production.

Continuing with his love of music, Johnson made his first foray into the music industry by collaborating with G. Love on his 1999 album, Philadelphonic. He wrote and contributed vocals to “Rodeo Clowns”, a song which would go on to be the most successful single from Philadelphonic.

Johnson’s work with G. Love was noticed and he soon caught the attention of producer J.P. Plunier. Plunier, who was Ben Harper’s producer at the time, heard a four track demo which Johnson had released and decided to work with him. Their collaboration resulted in Johnson’s first studio album, Bushfire Fairytales, which was released in early 2001. Initially not a success, the album went on to be certified platinum in the United States and brought Johnson to the public eye as an accomplished songwriter.

Building on the success of his first album, Johnson hired Mario Caldato Jr. to produce his next album, On and On. Released in May 2006, on Universal Records, the album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and also went on to be certified platinum in the United States.

Johnson created his own record label, Bushfire Records, to promote artists in Hawaii and released his third major album on the same label. Mario Caldato Jr. was once again enlisted and In Between Dreams was released on March 1, 2005. Though the album got mixed reviews from critics, it was a commercial success and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, and went on to be certified two times platinum in the country.

Johnson released his fourth album, Sleep Through the Static in 2008. The three year gap helped him focus on the essence and quality of his music, which he worked on to improve. He reverted back to Plunier to produce the album and released it in February 2008. The album was a major success and gave Jackson his first number album on the Billboard 200 chart. It set a record for most iTunes downloads in a single day and remained at the number one spot for almost four weeks. The album was his fourth consecutive album to be certified as platinum.

Jackson decided to coproduce his fifth album, To the Sea, with the help of his band. The album was released in 2010 to generally favorable reviews and debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard chart. Despite being critically well received, it did not do so well commercially and was only certified as gold in the US.

Jack Johnson’s sixth studio album, From Here to Now to You was released in September 2013 and is doing well on the charts. Jack Johnson tickets will allow you to catch Jackson performing songs from the album live including all his greatest hits, as he tours across the country to promote the album.
