Childish Gambino – Music Career

Childish Gambino produces his own music under the moniker ‘mcDJ’ and fuses a variety of electronic/remix melodies. His music profile includes albums like ‘So Fly & Bitch Look at me Now’, ‘Love Letter in an Unbreakable Bottle’, ‘Sick Boi’ , ‘Poindexter’ and mix tapes like ‘I am Just a Rapper’. Other than this, hit singles from his studio releases ‘Camp’ and ‘Because the Internet’ have won him recognition worldwide and ranked him on the Billboard 200 Charts. Since 2008 to date, Glover has touched more upon personal topics with his music, covering things like family, troubled romantic relationships, schoolyard bullying, alcoholism and suicidal thoughts. Songs like Bonfire, Hold You Down, V 3005, and Worldstar have shown his growth over the years as a rapper, singer and producer.

‘Because the Internet’

After selling 242,000 copies of his first album, ‘Camp’, Childish Gambino came up with his sophomore album, ‘Because the Internet’ in December 2013. Besides exceeding the sales of 201,000 in the United States alone, the album has also made it to the seventh position on the Billboard 200 and twelfth on the Canadian Album Charts.

When asked about the unusual title of the record, Childish Gambino stated that ‘Because of the internet I’m here, because of the internet we’re all here. It is the language of the earth.’ It features guest appearances by artists like Azealia Banks, Chance the Rapper, Jhene Aiko and Stefan Ponce and has been reviewed by credible publications like Exclaim! in words, “Because the Internet, is a vast improvement over his debut effort, showcasing an artist who has confidently found a way to coalesce his love for music and films into one hybrid effort.”  Another American publication, Complex called it as ‘The tenth best album of 2013’ and appreciated it to be a record that elicits the uncontrollable urge to listen to the next track one after the other. In this album Childish Gambino has proved that he has grown musically and lyrically over the years and ditches his old image of a boy who was trying to find himself in life.
