Early Years:

Born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1989, Avicii began making music comparatively late. His first experimentations with music began at the age of eighteen, when he started remixing and writing tracks in his bedroom. He would make tracks and release them on the internet onto various dance music blogs. Slowly he started getting noticed and garnered a loyal following.

House legend Tiesto supported Avicii in his earlier years and got him a weekly gig at the Privilege Club in Ibiza, where Avicii’s innovative music caught the attention of the public. He was slowly approached by artists to remix tracks for them and successfully pulled off remixes for Little Boots, Dizzee Rascal and Robyn.

Avicii’s first major mainstream release was a Ministry of Sound instrumental track, “Seek Bromance” (2010), which became a major hit all over Europe. It gained massive popularity in the UK night club scene after a new version was recorded, which featured local UK artist Amanda Wilson on vocals.

Mainstream Success:

In 2011 Avicii released the single “Le7els” (Levels), which would go on to be one of the biggest releases of the year. The song was nominated for a Grammy Award and played regularly in night clubs and major festivals around the world. It reached number one on numerous music charts around the world including the Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart.

Avicii continued to build on the success of his successful release and was invited to play and perform at major dance festivals throughout the world, like Tomorrowland.

By 2012 Avicii had garnered a major international following and had over two million followers on Facebook. 2012 also saw him collaborating with established DJ David Guetta on the track “Sunshine”, which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

2013 was a big year for Avicii since his highly anticipated debut album, TRUE, was slated to be released that year. Prior to the albums launch, Avicii released his first single from the album, “Wake Me Up!” in June. It was a major hit, and peaked at the number one spot on numerous music charts around the world.

TRUE was released in September 2013 and immediately charted in numerous countries around the world. It received massive commercial success and peaked within the top ten of at least ten countries.
