A Little about Sing-Off

The Sing-Off Live is an American reality singing show that features a cappella groups. Inaugurating back in 2009, the hit NBC show is currently celebrating its 4th season. Hosted by 98 Degrees boy band member, Nick Lachey, the show presents two permanent judges i.e. Stockman and Folds, with one guest judge that changes each season. Over the 3 years, guest judges who have made their way to the show include Nicole Scherzinger in the debut season and Sara Bareilles judging in the second and third season. The show invites a cappella groups from all over America, Canada and Puerto Rico. Groups are chosen by the judges during the auditions that advance throughout the rounds as per judges’ decisions and audiences’ votes.

The Sing-Off’s 2009 Season

The group to win the very first season of the Sing-Off Live was “Nota”. The Puerto Rican a cappella group consists of six members namely Johnny Figueroa, Jose A. Rodriguez, Ludwig Henderson, Edgar Rios, Juan E. Diaz and David Pinto.  Formed in 1994, the singers performed songs namely “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, “Down” by Jay Sean, “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees, “Various” by the Jackson 5, “Sledgehammer” by Peter Gabriel, “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers and “the Tracks of my Tears” by the Miracles. The last song helped the group win the title of the competition.

Sing-Off’s 2010 Season & Current Activities

The second season of the Sing-Off Live was won by “Committed”, a six male a cappella group from the area of Huntsville. Singers Therry Thomas, Tommy Gervais, Dennis Baptiste, Maurice, Geston Pierre and Robert Pressley performed songs namely “This Love” by Maroon 5, “Apologize” by One Republic, “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys, “Usher Medley” and the season winning song, “We Are the Champions” by the Queen. Runner-up groups of the Sing-Off Live include Beelzebubs and Voices of Lee in 2009, Street Corner Symphony and the Backbeats in 2010 and the Dartmouth Aires and Urban Method in 2011. With the third season being won by the Texas five-member group named “Pentatonix” in 2011, the Sing-Off Live wasn’t renewed for a fourth season in 2012. Fans would be thrilled to know that the Sing-Off Live has been renewed for the fourth season by NBC with auditions inaugurating in February.
