Start
It has only been three years since the Tedeschi Trucks Band was formed and in this short period of time, they have managed to gain fame that many bands cannot earn in decades. Founded by Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, the husband and wife, the band has reached out to the fans all across the world with their roots-rich musical tracks. With Tedeschi’s honky-tonk voice and Trucks’s signature guitar playing backed by nine more members, the band is more like a strong union of blues rock music.
The Leap and Revelator
In 2010, Susan and Derek decided to take the leap, donate their unique music talent to a combined group and see how the world reacts. Susan was successfully producing music with her Susan Tedeschi Band while Derek was doing just fine with his The Derek Trucks Band. In 2009, hiatus was announced as the bands decided to collaborate. Their home studio was visited by several musicians and friends, who helped them in the making of their first album. Their first concert as a band was in April of 2010. After that, they appeared at Fuji Rock Festival and Crossroads Guitar Festival.
Gradually, many other artists decided to pool in their talents. There was a great deal of uncertainty until the release of “Revelator”, their debut hybrid album that came out in 2011. It turned out to be a risk that was worth taking. Their music instantly got attention of the rock blues lovers. It ended up earning the band a Grammy Award in the category of “Best Blues Album” and a Blues Music Award in the category of “Album of the Year”. It was also rated four out of five by the Rolling Stone magazine. It was followed by the success of their live version of the song, ‘Everybody’s Talkin’. Later, they were awarded yet another Blues Music Award for “Best Rock Blues Album”.
Made Up Mind
For Susan and Derek, the strength of their eleven-member band lies in the number. The husband and wife themselves have a bond that reflects in their music. The lineup consists of a number of accomplished bassists as well as other diverse musicians. With ideas pouring in from all sides, the band got together and released “Made Up Mind”. The album came out in August of 2013. It took a little time for the flood gates of success to open for this particular album of theirs.
Apart from their own music, Susan and Derek have collaborated with other bands as well. For instance they appeared in Herbie Hancock’s “The Imagine Project” album.
Originality and Collaboration
Considering there are so many members in the band, Tedeschi Trucks Band focuses on featuring ideas in collaboration with every band member, and in these three years they have succeeded in doing just that. Although it took time for things to work out, they eventually did. The main focus of the band lies in presenting to their fans original songs. Because of their innovative music, TTB has become a must see live music band.
