Born in 1977in Los Angeles, Robin Charles Thicke, more popularly known as Robin Thicke is an internationally renowned musician, songwriter-singer and actor. He is the son of the Day of Our Lives actress, Gloria Loring and the Canadian actor, Alan Thicke.
Entering the entertainment industry in 1994, Robin initially started off writing the eponymous album “Love is on My Side”. He also composed for 3T’s “Brotherhood” working with songwriters namely Terry Lewis, Jimmy Jam and Jordan Knight. Robin’s music was used on Jordan Knight’s 1999 self-titled album. Apart from this, Robin wrote the song “When You Put Your Hands on Me” that was featured on Christina Aguilera’s debut album. Robin has also been credited for writing Mya’s “No Tears on My Pillow” and “Fall Again” which was supposed to be featured on one of Michael Jackson’s albums.
Mainstream Releases & Debut Hits
In 2000, Robin Thicke announced that he was initiating work on his debut album “Cherry Blue Skies”. After two years of composing, Robin came forth with his debut single, “When I Get You Alone”. Receiving gold certification, the song reached the third spot on the Ultratop 50 in Belgium and seventeenth on the ARIA Top 50 Singles. It was also performed on the popular singing show The American Idol, by runner-up Blake Lewis. A year later, this song was revamped and featured on Robin’s debut album, “A Beautiful World”, that was previously supposed to be named “Cherry Blue Skies.” Released via Interscope Records, the release reached the fourth spot on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers Chart and was able to sell 63,000 copies in America.
Claim to Fame & International Success
After this release, Robin Thicke was signed on by Star Trak. Soon he started writing for his sophomore release titled “The Evolution of Robin Thicke”. After releasing his first single titled “Wanna Love U Girl”, Robin came out with another song, “Lost without U”, before releasing the album. The recird dominated the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart by landing on top. It then received platinum certification from the RIAA apart from being awarded 4 out of 5 stars by Okayplayer, and 3.5 out of 5 stars by Allmusic and Yahoo! Music UK. After the success of this album, Robin was seen opening for artists such as Beyonce for her “The Beyonce Experience” Tour in 2007.
In 2013, the singer released a single titled “Blurred Lines” that featured Pharell and T.I. This song took the pop and hip hop music industry by storm. Topping charts such as Billboard R&B Songs and Billboard Hot 100, “Blurred Lines” surpassed Rihanna’s “We Found Love.” The song also dominated charts all across Denmark, UK, Belgium, Italy, Iceland, France, Lithuania, Switzerland and Portugal. With multiple platinum certifications to his name, Robin Thicke is ready to perform his chart topping hits at the upcoming concerts.
