This year would be the sixth annual Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, held from 9th to 11th August. Since 2008, the festival is held annually at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Each year the festival hosts a number of musical performances and many other forms of art. With simultaneous performances at several stages there is not a single boring moment and plenty of entertainment.
A Scene from 2008…
The first ever Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival was held from 22nd to 24th August 2008, in San Francisco. There were more than sixty music entities in the lineup for the three day performances. The venue for the festival included the Polo Fields, where “Lands End Stage” was raised, Lindley Meadow with “Sutro” and “Presidio” stages and Speedway Meadow where “Twin Peaks” and “Panhandle” stages were standing.
The event hosted almost sixty thousand people each day which made it a huge success but lack of proper crowd management led to some criticism of the festival. However, the events' follow up was more than enough to alleviate any grievances that could have risen from lack of control procedures.
This Year's Music Mania
Apart from Paul McCartney, this year's headlining artists include Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Phoenix. Other musicians gracing the festival this year include Kaskade, Hall & Oates, Pretty Lights, Vampire Weekend, Young the Giant, D'Angelo, Willie Nelson, Jurassic 5, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and many more.
The exciting performances provide continuous entertainment making it one of the world's most entertaining festivals. It would be a tough choice for the attendees to choose from the number of acts lined up.
More Fun Stuff to Look for
There is a separate exciting lineup of visual experiences crafted for the visitors this year. A group of selected artists will provide the attendees with live-painting as well as three dimensional art works. Skinner, Pastime, Chez and Apex, Tim Diet and Brett Amory are some of the names in live painting arena at the festival. Three dimensional sculptures artists include Jeben Berg and Guy Overfelt.
There are also theatrical performances and musical guest appearances scheduled for this year's event. Mike Shine with his ‘Medicine Show Revival' and Dr Flotsam with ‘Hell Brew Review' will welcome the attendees with visual and theatrical masterpieces. California Honeydrops, The Brothers Comatose, Tumbleweed Wanderers and The Dustbowl Revival are the expected guest stars to make appearances at the festival along with some more surprise guests.
The Other Picture of the Fest
The “Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival” has an eco-friendly stance. Numerous initiatives, like ride-sharing are taken every year to make the festival more environment friendly. There are also educational strategies designed to spread awareness among the attendees regarding the environmental issues. Refillable water plants and solar power stages are installed in the festival arenas. Waste diversion program, a bike valet parking program and a recycling program are also carried out during the event. This means that people can enjoy the event without being worried about the effects on the environment.
