George Strait developed an interest in music during his term at Pearsall High School. Hank Thompson, George Jones and Frank Sinatra served as his early music inspiration but later he became passionate about country music. In 1971, he joined the United States Army and played with different military bands besides his regular services. After retiring from the army in 1975 and completing his degree from Southwest Texas State University, he took music as his vocation. He played with different local bands until he was completely ready for a solo music career.
Strait’s solo success came after the release of his first single, Unwound in 1981. His debut studio record, Strait Country came out in September 1981 and went Platinum in the US. This rare success led him to produce a series of successful albums in the following years and he emerged as one of the internationally popular country stars.
Peak of Music Career
The period between 1983 and 1990 turned out to be remarkably promising for Strait as he had eight US Country chart topping records in a row. These albums received Gold and Platinum certifications in different countries and Strait also racked up numerous awards for his hit tracks and albums. More success and fame followed Strait as he stepped into the 90s. A number of chartbusting records coupled with his regular live shows maintained his prominence on the international music scene. 90s came to a close with hit records like Carrying Your Love with Me, One Step at a Time and Always Never the Same.
