Fantasia had a dramatic start of her career. She came to American Idol's Atlanta auditions but figuring that she couldn't sing on an empty stomach, left. Entry gates were closed when she returned but a guard who had seen her singing earlier grabbed her by the arm and let her in. She sang Abbie Mitchell's “Summertime” and her performance was regarded by the judges as the best in the history of the show.

Her Amazing Journey:

Fantasia came out as a winner on the third season (2004) of American Idol and from there she rose to fame. Her debut single “I Believe” was released a short while later and went No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100. Free Yourself was the album that followed her debut single which got her three Grammy nominations along with a platinum certification by the RIAA. Her second release was a self-titled album, released in 2006. It spawned a Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart single “When I See You.” The album received another three Grammy nominations but this time, a gold certification by the RIAA. She then tried her luck in acting and played the role of Celie in a famous Broadway production The Color Purple. She received a Theater World Award in 2007 for her performance. Back to Me was her third album which spawned the single “Bittersweet” and brought her a Grammy Award in the category of Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Until 2012, Fantasia had sold over 2 million albums in United States alone.

Fantasia Today:

Her latest performance of “Lose to Win” on American Idol dazzled the judges and live audience once again and her performance was called “dynamic, passionate and powerful.” She received immense appreciation and rave reviews from the rest of the media as well.
