Beginning of the Band
Eli Young Band emerged on the music scene after 2000 when two of the friends, James Young and Mike Eli began playing music during their term at the University of North Texas. The duo was then joined by Jon James and Chris Thompson which completed their lineup. The casual jamming turned into serious songwriting and instrument playing sessions. The group wrote and composed some of their early songs and laid out tracks for their first album. The band’s first self-titled record was released in 2002. Eli Young Band performed at a number of local concerts which gave them exposure and helped them introduce their original music to the listeners.
After spending three years on refining their music and songwriting, Eli Young Band came up with their second studio album, Level in 2005. Catchy tunes of the albums soon became popular among their circles and the band opened some of the shows for the famous country artist, Miranda Lambert. The hype spread through their live shows gained them exposure on the popular channels like CMT and GAC which expanded their fan following.
Compiling material from their regular touring, the group released a live album, Eli Young Band At the Jolly Fox in 2006. This gave them a major break and they developed a devoted listener base. Besides frequently performing to big crowds, the band started to plan and write songs for their next album. Jet Black & Jealous came out in 2008 and presented the band’s fresh take on musical layering, acoustics and lyricism. It included hits such as When It Rains, Always the Love Songs and Guinevere. The album peaked at five on the US Country Albums chart and earned them well deserved commercial success.
