From Beginning to Breakthrough

Born in Aachen, Germany, David Garrett surprised his parents when he played piano at the age of four. By the time he was ten, he had won many local competitions besides performing with some of the most revered orchestras and playhouses including the Hamburg Philharmonics. At thirteen, he became the youngest violinist to sign an exclusive deal with the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft. His success continued in the following years and Garrett won a number of awards. The rest, as they say, is history.

David Garrett toured around the world under the supervision of some of the most prominent and accomplished musicians and earned widespread acclaim for his talent. In 1999 he moved to New York and enrolled in the Julliard School to hone his skills to perfection. During his term at the School, the guidelines of the Grammy winning master Itzhak Perlmann gave a brand new dimension to his talents. His passion and dedication enabled him to win the Composition Competition of Julliard School. With his refined abilities and adeptness, he steered his career towards the goal of creating a classical crossover that would capture youngsters towards the traditional music. Today, everyone knows how successful he has been in doing so.

Leaping Forward into Future

Although David Garrett’s recording career began in the mid 90s but it touched new levels of success after his classical crossover became popular. His 2007 album, Free was hailed by the international critics for its unusual arrangements and instrument blending. The following three albums, Virtuoso (2007), Encore (2008) and Classic Romance (2009) earned Garrett applause for his artistic excellence. In the years that followed, he performed at some of the leading venues and gave sold out shows in different parts of the world. Besides winning numerous awards, he remained prominent on the classical charts for months with his hit follow up records.

His 2010 album, Rock Symphonies opened his music to multi-generational listeners including diehard Nirvana rockers as well as Bach lovers. This rare achievement marked a new chapter in his career and he headlined his concerts at multiple venues during his Rock Symphonies Tour. The album also won two Echo Awards in 2011. In 2012, his new album, Legacy hit different music charts in Germany and was eventually certified as Gold. Besides continuous recording and tireless touring, David Garrett has recently starred as the lead actor in the movie, The Devil’s Violinist.
