Ranked amongst the ‘100 Greatest Guitarist of All Time’ by Rolling Stone, Buddy Guy is often credited for pioneering the Chicago blues genre. With a musical style featuring sudden imploring guitar riffs after soft solos or unexpected drops from loud sound to sweet sustained music, Buddy has carved his own unique style that has truly become universal in its own right. The artist has been a major influence to some of the most eminent musicians such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.
Buddy released numerous recording in the beginning of his career. He was involved with several bands including Junior Wells Band. His first album with Junior Wells, ‘Hoodoo Man Blues’, was released in 1965. Throughout the 1970s, Buddy collaborated with numerous artists and released albums such as ‘I Was Walking Though the Woods’, ‘Play The Blues’, ‘Buddy and the Juniors’ and ‘In the Beginning’.
During the 1980s, Buddy’s career was resurrected with a renewed interest of audiences in blues genre. His appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the star studded ‘24 Nights’ event made Buddy one of the most sought after blues musicians of that time. In 1991, he released ‘Damn Right, I’ve Got the Blues’ that won Buddy his first Grammy Award for ‘Best Contemporary Blues Album’. Since then the artist has received numerous accolades and honors including six Grammys, a ‘National Medal of Arts’ and twenty three W.C Handy Awards.
Jonny began his musical career at the young age of thirteen. While learning to play the guitar from Ted Larsen of Bad Medicine Blues Band, Jonny was invited to join the band that later became Kid Jonny Land & The Big Band. The group relocated to Minneapolis where they released the album ‘Smokin’’ in 1996. The following year, Jonny released his debut studio album ‘Lie to Me’ after signing with the A&M Records. The album landed on the Billboard 200 chart at number forty-four position and was certified multi-platinum status after selling millions of copies. The artist won his first Grammy Award nomination for his album ‘Wander this World’ that reached twenty-eighth spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Jonny’s 2006 album ‘Turn Around’ topped the Billboard Christian Album chart as well as reached number thirty five spot on the US Billboard 200. The album earned Jonny his first Grammy for ‘Best Rock or Gospel Album’.
