Mars began his career as an Elvis impersonator, citing Presley as a major influence. Other musical influences include Michael Jackson, Little Richard, Keith Sweat, Jodeci, R. Kelly, Prince, The Police, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles.  As a result of listening to such a wide variety of genres, Mars’ music traverses a wide range of genres.

Born in 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Mars was introduced to music at an early age. His parents were both performers, and met at a show where his mother was a hula dancer and his father was a playing percussion. Young Bruno was soon listening to Elvis Presley records and by age four could impersonate The King. He also began performing with his uncle on stage, giving him audience exposure at a very young age. Mars began learning to play the guitar after listening to guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, which further helped in the evolution of his musical career. After graduating from high school, Mars decided to move to Los Angeles to professionally pursue a career in music.

Music Career:

Following his move to LA, Mars signed to the famous Motown Records in 2004. But the venture was a failure, as he was dropped by the label a year later. But that did not matter too much, as Mars became a part of The Smeezingtons, a production-songwriting team he founded with Ari Levine and Philip Lawrence. The trio began producing and writing hits for a diverse talent pool. Some of their biggest hits included Flo Rida’s Right Round, K’Naan’s Waving Flag (theme song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup) and Travie McCoy’s Billionaire.

But Mars original interest had been to become a singer himself, so he decided to work on his debut album. "Doo Wops & Hooligans" was released on October 4th 2010 and became a worldwide hit. The lead single from the album, Just the Way You Are gave Mars his first number one hit, and his follow up single, Grenade became Mars’ second consecutive number one. The album also spawned the high charting The Lazy Song. A critical and commercial success, the album was nominated for seven Grammy Awards and went multi platinum in a number of countries worldwide.

Anticipation was high for Mars’ second album, for which he released the promotional single Locked out of Heaven. The album, "Unorthodox Jukebox" was released on December 11, 2012. It debuted at number two on the Billboard charts and became the fastest selling solo album of 2012. The singles, Locked out of Heaven and When I Was Your Man gave Mars two more number one hit on the charts. A highly talented vocalist, Mars is blessed with a tenor three octave vocal range. His voice has a beautiful texture to it, one, that simply seems to blend in perfectly with a variety of genres. That is why one can find pop, R&B, hip hop, rock, soul and reggae in Mars’ music, making him one of the most diverse and versatile performers out there.
