Rock of Ages- A Chronological View
With its book written by Chris D'Arieno, Rock of Ages musical premiered in Las Vegas in 2005. The show played at different venues in Vegas to sold-out crowds. An Off-Broadway run of the show started in October 2008 at the New World Stages. After completing a series of shows, it hit the Broadway stage in April 2009. The Broadway production, with little modifications in orchestration and crew, still runs at leading theaters.
The popularity and critical appreciation of the musical gave way to its opening in Toronto in May 2010. In the same year the first national US tour started and rocked more than sixty venues throughout the country. 2011 proved to be luckier for the musical and spawned many national and international productions of the show. Kicking-off second national and first Australian tour, the musical also opened in West End at Shaftesbury Theatre in September 2011. Rock of Ages tickets were in great demand and the musical became one of the most sought-after shows of the season.
The universal appeal of the rock musical encouraged a film adaptation in 2012. Featuring the superstar Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx, the movie premiered in June 2012. The fame of Rock of Ages never fades and the show again took over the stage in 2013. It will be staged at the leading theaters during its 2013-2014 run.
The musical is directed by the immensely talented Kristin Hanggi, who before making her Broadway debut with the Rock of Ages, also directed the award-winning Bare: A Pop Opera and the play Corpus Christi. The phenomenal choreography is done by Kelly Devine. Apart from this, she has worked as an assistant choreographer in the very popular musicals Jersey Boys and Memphis. The breathtaking sets are designed by Beowulf Boritt whereas Gregory Gale brings his mastery in designing costumes for the cast members. Working together as a collective unit, the team is all set to give a rocking experience to the audiences.
Featuring some new faces in the cast during its latest tour, the show will offer a new vibe of passion and thrill. The role of Drew will be played by Dominique Scott while Shannon Mullen will be taking over as Sherrie. The stardom of Stacee Staxx will be portrayed by Universo Pereira while Justin Colombo will be playing Lonny. Including Matt Ban, Stephen Michael Kane and Amma Osei along with the other cast members, the new lineup is fresh, exciting and energetic!
